Debrief: Colorado Springs Hostage Incident by Colorado Springs SWAT

Presented by: Lieutenant Dan Lofgren – CSPD Tactical Operations Commander

Sergeant Bob Wolf – CSPD Tactical Enforcement Unit Team Leader

Synopsis: On March 12, 2018, the Colorado Springs Police Department’s Tactical Enforcement Unit (TEU) attempted contact with a wanted fugitive in a local motel room. The fugitive immediately took a female hostage and threatened murder/suicide if a get-a-way vehicle was not delivered within two hours. Through negotiations, sniper intel, a vehicle delivery, explosive breach and deliberate entry, the hostage was rescued. This presentation identifies overall lessons learned from the event and the command mindset relating to the Safety Priorities Model.
